Professor of Infrastructure Simulation and Modelling
SMART Infrastructure Facility
The SMART (Simulation, Modelling and Analysis for Research and Teaching) Infrastructure Facility is a world class comprehensive research and training facility of integrated laboratories that will develop new ways in which infrastructure related disciplines are taught and researched. Recently funded by the Commonwealth and NSW Government’s and UOW, this A$61 million infrastructure facility will be the first of its kind in Australia, and one of a very few in the world.
Promoting research collaboration across engineering, ICT, economics and mathematical sciences, SMART will also stimulate collaboration with industry, government and research institutions. It will provide a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary facility for holistic and evidence-based evaluation of infrastructure design, operation and maintenance. Central to the new facility’s capabilities will be a Simulation Centre which uses computational and theoretical methods to model infrastructure systems and interdependencies.
Your role is to lead the SMART research effort in Infrastructure Simulation and Modelling. You will be experienced in one or more of the engineering, computer, geographical, mathematical, statistical and visualization modeling techniques relevant to Infrastructure systems and networks. Of interest to SMART are a wide range of applications relevant to modern society, such as transportation, telecommunications, power and energy, water, finance, security, human geography and epidemiology. This role will involve collaborative research projects with existing UOW staff, the supervision of research students and teaching relevant courses. You will develop external funding sources, from both government funding schemes and via commercial contracts with industry.
You must address the criteria specified in the Position Description, which is available from our website. For further information about this role please contact Professor Tim Marchant, Dean of Research, on (02) 42213861 or tim_marchant@uow.edu.au
