Q Do I need to fill in a separate application form?

A There are no separate application forms for you to complete. However, when applying online, you will be required to provide some basic information to help us with your application.

Q How long will the process take?

A Approximately 2-3 weeks after the closing date, you will be contacted by the University if you have been successful in advancing to the next stage. Interviews are generally held within 1 month of the closing date. Decisions are made soon after the last interview held, and offers made (subject to reference checks and verification of qualifications) within the week.

Q At what stage will I be required to provide evidence of my qualifications?

A

You are not required to include copies of qualifications in your application. You will however be required to provide original evidence of professional and/or academic qualifications during the recruitment process. The University of Wollongong may subsequently verify these qualifications with the issuing institution.

If you are applying for an academic position you should include a list of published material in your application. Copies of these publications are not required to be included in your application.

Q References – My current supervisor/manager does not know that I am applying for another job, but I am required to provide a Referee who is a supervisor. What alternate referees can I give?

A

At the application stage, you can nominate alternate referees ie previous supervisor/manager, either from a previous place of employment or a previous position with your current employer. For Academic appointments, we will need to contact referees to obtain written reports prior to the interview as well. For all appointments, we will contact referees verbally prior to an offer being made.

If there are any difficulties with contacting your current supervisor at the interview or offer stage, please discuss this with the Recruiter to work out a suitable alternative. You may also be asked to provide additional referee at interview.

We will ask your permission before we contact any referees.

Q I would like to work part-time or on a casual basis, is there a register I can put my name on?

A

From time to time, the University has a need to employ casual or temporary staff. Normally, each Faculty/Department/Unit employs casual staff directly, which may or may not be advertised on UOW website. If you are interested in working for us in this capacity, please contact the Recruitment Unit to discuss our process and what may be available.

Q Does the University offer relocation assistance?

A

Depending upon the position you are taking with the University you may be eligible for relocation assistance. Not all positions will be eligible for relocation assistance. Our guidelines outline what monetary assistance may be provided and for what kinds of things this assistance may cover. Your Recruiter will provide you with further information at the time of offer.

Q How can I access information about working at the University, eg employment conditions such as leave, hours of work, performance management etc?

A

When making an offer, the University provides candidates with a choice to be covered either under an Individual Agreement (AWA) or under the appropriate Enterprise Agreement (i.e. either the UNIVERSITY OF WOLLONGONG (ACADEMIC STAFF) ENTERPRISE AGREEMENT, 2000 to 2003 or the UNIVERSITY OF WOLLONGONG (GENERAL STAFF) ENTERPRISE AGREEMENT, 2000 to 2003).

For more information about individual agreements, please visit the following website: http://www.oea.gov.au/

For information about the Enterprise Agreements, please see following links:

Q When I come for the interview where will I park? Do I need to pay?

A

Your Recruiter will explain the parking arrangements and provide you with a Campus Map prior to the day of interview. You may be required to pay for parking which is on a per hour basis. For further information about parking at UOW, please visit: http://www.uow.edu.au/about/parking/

Q

How long will the interview take?

A

At the time you are invited to interview the Recruiter will advise you of the approximate duration of your interview. For some positions, you may be required to complete other selection activities such as presentations, technical questionnaires, aptitude tests or psychometric tests.

Q How many people are on a Selection Committee?

A

The composition of the Selection Committee will vary depending on the level of the position. You will be advised of the composition of the Selection Committee at the time that you are invited to interview.

Q I know somebody who is on the Selection Committee, am I still eligible to apply?

A

You should disclose to the Recruiter if you share a Business or a Close Personal Relationship with member(s) of the Selection Committee. This disclosure will not hinder the continuation of your application. It is an issue for the Chair/Recruitment to review the composition of the Selection Committee in the event of a conflict.

Q How long after the interview will I know if I have been successful or not?

You will be informed at the conclusion of the interview of the expected decision timeframe. Pending final checks and discussions, successful candidates are generally informed within a week after the interview. Those candidates who were unsuccessful will be advised shortly thereafter. At this time, unsuccessful candidates will be provided with feedback in relation to their interview and reasons as to why there were unsuccessful.
